Petra

Known as the “Rose City” due to the color of the stone from which it is carved, Petra is Jordan’s most famous archaeological site. This ancient city, which dates back to around 300 B.C., was the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom and is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The Treasury (Al-Khazneh) is its most iconic structure.

Jerash

Jerash, located in northern Jordan, is renowned for its remarkably preserved Roman ruins, earning it the title “Pompeii of the East.” Once part of the Decapolis, it was a hub of Greek and Roman culture.

Ajloun

Ajloun, a picturesque town in northern Jordan, is renowned for its rich history and breathtaking landscapes. Its main attraction, the 12th-century Ajloun Castle, was constructed by the Muslim general Salah ad-Din (Saladin) to protect against the Crusaders. The castle provides stunning panoramic views of the countryside and exemplifies medieval Islamic military architecture.

Wadi Rum

Wadi Rum, also known as the Valley of the Moon, is a breathtaking desert landscape in southern Jordan. Known for its dramatic sandstone mountains, vast open spaces, and striking rock formations, Wadi Rum has been a popular destination for adventurers and nature lovers.

Dead Sea

Dana

Shobak

Shobak is a small town in southern Jordan, approximately 30 kilometers north of Petra. It is renowned for Shobak Castle (Montreal Castle), a historic Crusader fortress that has stood for centuries. Located in the Ma’an Governorate, Shobak offers a quieter, more rural experience compared to the busier tourist destinations in the region.

Umm Qais

Umm Qais, or Gadara, is a town in northern Jordan famous for its remarkable ancient ruins and spectacular views of the Jordan Valley, Sea of Galilee, and Golan Heights. Its hilltop position makes it one of Jordan’s most picturesque archaeological sites.

Ma’in

Ma’in, or Hammamat Ma’in, is a renowned region in Jordan famous for its hot springs and picturesque waterfalls. Situated near the eastern shores of the Dead Sea, about 58 kilometers southwest of Amman, it attracts tourists and locals alike for relaxation and wellness experiences.

Mukawer

is the contemporary name for Machaerus, the ancient hilltop fortress in Jordan. Situated near the eastern shore of the Dead Sea, Mukawer is historically and biblically significant, notably as the location where John the Baptist was imprisoned and executed.

Tabqet Fahel (Pella)

Tabqet Fahel, or Pella, is an ancient city in the Jordan Valley, approximately 130 kilometers north of Amman. It is one of Jordan’s key archaeological sites, featuring ruins from the Bronze Age through the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic periods.

Wadi Al Mujib

Wadi al-Mujib, or the Mujib Biosphere Reserve, is one of Jordan’s stunning natural attractions, featuring dramatic canyons, rivers, and diverse wildlife. Located in central Jordan and descending towards the Dead Sea, it is famous for adventure activities like hiking, canyoning, and exploring its picturesque water-filled gorges.

Desert Castles

Jordan’s Desert Castles are a collection of historical and archaeological sites located in the eastern desert plains. Primarily from the Umayyad period (7th-8th centuries AD), these structures served various purposes such as hunting lodges, retreats, caravanserais, agricultural centers, and fortifications. They showcase a fusion of Islamic art and architecture, influenced by Roman, Byzantine, and Persian styles. Notable castles include Qasr Amra, Qasr Al-Kharanah, Qasr Al-Azraq, Qasr Al-Hallabat, Qasr Al-Mushatta, and Qasr Al-Tuba.

As-Salt

As-Salt, a historic city in Jordan approximately 28 kilometers northwest of Amman, is one of the country’s oldest cities. In 2021, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its rich history, architecture, and cultural heritage. Its strategic location along ancient trade routes between the Jordan Valley and the eastern desert has made As-Salt a significant center for trade and cultural exchange among various civilizations.

Al-Karak

Al-Karak, a historic city in southern Jordan, is renowned for its stunning hilltop setting, medieval crusader castle, and rich history. Situated about 140 kilometers south of Amman, it is a key destination for those exploring Jordan’s historical and cultural sites.
